Fresh from university, Nisha Patel began her career in Maconomy as a Business Consultant five years ago. Now an accomplished Senior Consultant, Nisha has accumulated loads of business and product expertise over the years and yet she finds that no two days are alike at Maconomy.
How would you describe Maconomy as a company?
Maconomy is a fun place to work. The people at Maconomy is one of the reasons I enjoy going to work. They are all friendly and welcoming. Teamwork is key to making a company. The Maconomy product is improving all the time and new functionality is being introduced to satisfy our clients' needs and expectations. This guarantees that no two days are alike at Maconomy and I believe this makes the company unique.
How would you describe the Maconomy culture?
Maconomy's culture is one of a kind. I've been with Maconomy for over 5 years and have stayed committed due to the people, the constantly improving product and the fun atmosphere that persists no matter which local office you may be working from. We may work hard but you are always guaranteed that little bit of fun and laughs during the day.
How does a typical work day look to you in your role?
At Maconomy I find there is no typical day. Every day is different as you get the opportunity to work on different client projects at different locations. One day I may be in London and the next I may be flying to HQ to deliver training. My role involves information gathering, systems implementations, testing, training and from time to time assisting the sales team for a sales presentation.
What was it like to join Maconomy as a fresh face and how has your role evolved?
Fresh from uni, I had no idea what to expect. I had no knowledge of the advertising world nor the consulting world. Through time and mentoring, this all changed and I am very familiar with these sectors. Initially my role was 50% consulting and 50% sales, but I soon found the consulting side more interesting. I began as a Junior Consultant and worked my way up to Senior Consultant. I have since gone on several internal and external training courses and with Maconomy's support I have completed my AAT qualification within 1.5 years as well as PRINCE 2.
How do you have fun in Maconomy?
I tend to make people laugh and have a few jokes in the office. When all the consultants are in we all tend to go out for lunch to catch up. We have a Nintendo Wii in the office so we can play after a hard day's work or go to the pub for a few drinks. The company kickoffs/company days out are always a good laugh as is the Christmas party.
What would be your advice to future employees to be successful in Maconomy?
Be prepared for a steep learning curve and never give up at the first hurdle. Everyone at Maconomy is here to help you, so just ask.
